There must be a better place for clothes that are not quite laundry

Almost every home seems to develop a chair, hook, or corner for clothes that have been worn but are not ready for washing. Put them back in the wardrobe and they disappear into the clean clothes. Leave them out and a small pile becomes part of the furniture.

Has anyone found a simple arrangement that keeps this category under control? Extra storage is not always available, so small-space ideas would be useful. Also curious about deciding when an item can be worn again without turning the process into a complicated set of rules. Ordinary, workable solutions are very welcome.

A small fixed space could set a natural limit on the pile. The arrangement may matter less than having an easy stopping point.

Hooks, an open basket, and a chair all solve different problems. Suggestions that explain airflow and available space will be easier to compare.

Keeping these clothes separate from things waiting to be repaired could stop one small category from turning into a mixed pile.

A quick check before getting dressed might use what is already on the hook. Otherwise the pile can grow while clean clothes keep coming out.

For a shared room, agreeing on a small personal spot may matter more than choosing the perfect container. Everyone needs to know what the space is for.
