Sharing a computer without sharing every account

A shared laptop can slowly become everyone's email, shopping account, saved documents, and open browser sessions mixed together. Nobody needs bad intentions for a wrong click to expose something private or place an order from the wrong account. Separate user profiles seem obvious, but keeping them working in a busy household can take a little organisation. What arrangement is simple enough that everyone actually follows it? This is especially worth discussing where children, visiting relatives, or several people working from home use the same machine at different times.

Separate device accounts are useful because they divide files as well as browser sessions. A browser profile alone may not create the same boundary.

Agreeing who can install software also helps avoid surprises. Keep that conversation practical and understandable for whoever uses the computer least often.

Set the device to lock between users and make signing out an ordinary habit. A private profile offers little protection while it stays open.

A visible folder for genuinely shared files can reduce confusion. Keep individual documents elsewhere so nobody has to guess which items are safe to move.
