The free trial is easy. Remembering to cancel is the hard part.

There is a familiar little bargain with free trials: enter payment details now, decide whether the app is useful later. Later arrives during a busy week, and the renewal email gets buried. Some subscriptions are genuinely useful, but several tiny charges can become a surprisingly large monthly bill. What makes a subscription worth keeping for you? Is there a calendar reminder, a spending limit, or a rule about cancelling immediately after signing up? It would be useful to hear a simple approach that does not require downloading another subscription management app.

Putting the renewal amount in the calendar reminder makes the decision more concrete. A vague reminder called app trial is much easier to ignore.

Check the cancellation confirmation, too. Closing an account screen or removing an app does not necessarily mean the subscription has ended.
