Moving abroad: what should be sorted during the first week?

A move can produce an endless list of urgent-looking jobs. Housing, transport, local services, groceries, paperwork, and staying in touch all compete for attention while the boxes are still closed. It is easy to spend a whole day on something that could have waited.

For people who have relocated, how did you choose the order? Which practical task made the next few weeks easier, and which one could safely wait? General routines are welcome, but location-specific administrative steps need the country and an official source so another person does not mistake one situation for a universal rule.

Knowing where to buy basic food and how to get home can make the larger tasks feel less overwhelming. Small routines deserve space here.
