The best water bottle is apparently the one that fits in your bag

Water bottles have become surprisingly complicated objects. A large one can be awkward on public transport, a tiny one needs constant refilling, and a complicated lid becomes another thing to wash. The practical details often matter more than the colour or whatever feature is printed on the box. For people who carry a bottle most days, what actually makes it convenient? Think bag pockets, refill points, cleaning and leaks. There is probably no single perfect choice, but the everyday annoyances are worth comparing.

Mentioning your commute or bag size would make the answers more useful. Something comfortable on a desk may be inconvenient to carry all day.

Cleaning the lid deserves its own discussion. Which designs are easy to take apart without needing a tiny brush collection?

A bottle can fit the side pocket and still make a bag awkwardly heavy on one side. Shape and carrying position belong in the comparison too.
